About, poem

I asked a friend to write about death … But I did instead:

Strong wind blows the past

into the future we sail

Boundless and joyfull

So heartfelt and some pride as the words just quickly poured out.
I sure as shit hope I didn’t read this on some Hallmark card and it buried itself in my subcon.

Mid progress of a painting I did in 2013 post cardiac surgery. 5’x7′ with many layers of acrylic and gesso.

Other images are 8″x10″: far right, from a dream of Jews behind a fenced street in Holland: middle test of concept- dried clay mixed with paper pulp and shaped on top of a canvas; left mix of water colours, acrylic, and layered gesso.

I remember

… that time in the 1980’s when I mentioned to someone at a housewarming party that I took a vow of poverty/low income as a teen. They responded by raging for 5 minutes… as a therapist (in training) my response was to offer to help them draw up a budget …

Brokenness of Others

about me, brokenness, kid

I am a deeply spiritual, mildly autistic, and overly optimistic person. That’s not just how I define myself, for decades that’s what people have been saying and occasionally labeling me as.

Mrs Fenimore was my 4’th grade teacher. Born and raised in South Carolina, she had the sweetest accent I had ever heard in my young life up to that point. Later on, as a teen I heard a Quebecois womyn calling my name and for a brief moment I felt like I was floating on air. But that’s another story for another day.

You see, in the middle of the fall term in Mrs Fenimore’s class a new kid joined. ‘Jay’ must have been one of the last kids in early 1960’s America that had contracted polio. Jay had a limp, wore a special shoe on one foot, and used a cane. This freaked me out.

Meeting this kid was my first and unexpectedly deep experience of the brokenness of others outside of my own family. I wept for Jay. Literally wept for this kid. I kept thinking, why him? Why not me? Why did this happen?

I think that as a kid asking these deep questions came from a place of sincerity, compassion, and confusion. They came from a place of ego too.  What with my autistic tendencies and being diagnosed with a heart condition at a very young age, here was someone who seemed to be more broken than me….

Mrs Fenimore was soothing and encouraging, mainly to redirect me back to school work. She encouraged me to become friends with this new lad, which was challenging for me as he was an outsider and was constantly made fun of and taunted.

I distinctly recall suddenly realizing that my class mates were treating him in the same way my family treated me. With that realization I made the choice to become friends with ‘Jay’ and the other shunned kids in my class. We united in our brokenness.

“Wounding and healing are not opposites. They’re part of the same thing. It is our wounds that enable us to be compassionate with the wounds of others. It is our limitations that make us kind to the limitations of other people. It is our loneliness that helps us to find other people or to even know they’re alone with an illness. I think I have served people perfectly with parts of myself I used to be ashamed of.” Rachel Naomi Remen

Fake USPS email scam

About, Data hack, email, scam, usps

The newest scam, at least for me has two parts.

Part one: send an email that appears to be from the US post office telling me they have a package but need more details (my address) to complete delivery. My first thought, my email and address are already in the US postal system. It’s likely a scam.

Part two: wait a few days and send a text saying basically the same thing. My first thought, is USPS that daft that they can’t piece together info that they already have? No.

Everyone (in N.America) can expect scam emails, texts, ect, since a data broker was hacked and 100’s of millions of ID’s including S.S numbers were stolen.

Anyone else have this particular scam present itself?

Positive Me

About, me, positive

Most people know me as a generally positive glass haft full kinda person. And it’s true, I see most everything in a positive light. This has pissed and angered more than a few over the years. Not really sure why, I suppose they expect me to react and respond to things, people, and places the way they do…. but I don’t, never have, never will.

We have the power to define the meaning of events in our lives.

I learned this as a very young child from my aunties who would visit every summer to help my mom “deal” with me. As an autistic with a heart condition who preferred tree contact more than human contact my mom struggled to know what to do with me. Of course she didn’t have to deal or do, but to just let me be …. which she eventually did (mostly).

My positivity seems to have increased over the years, (if that’s even possible). After heart surgery, multiple brain surgeries, occasional homelessness, and numerous threats of violence I remain optimistic, upbeat, and hopeful.

We do have the power to define the meaning of events in our lives. People, places, and things.

My Playlists

About, music, playlists

Every year for the past 15 years I have curated a playlist of my most listened to songs of the year. In the beginning, in 2008, it was music from my own rather massive collect but somewhere along the line I switched to newly discovered music I find on YouTube.
YouTube has about 2 billion monthly users who listen to music. If you aren’t putting some sort of posting of your music on YouTube you are massively limiting your reach.

My Playlists
I currently have about 800 subscriptions to music labels (big and small), as well as individual artists and bands. Each year I listen to about 1200 songs and reduce that to a maximum of 54 songs. I wrap the playlist up by December 31, although I did not finish the 2022 list until the second week of January 2023.

Currently working on the 2023 playlist and here is a song from the 2023 curated favorites song playlist: Margaret Glaspy – Get Back

About, Social Media

I use social media, and have been used by social media. Meta Corp., which owns Facebook (FB), Instagram (IN), and WhatsApp, earns 97.5% of its revenue from the sale of advertising (Wikipedia).

I have had a personal profile page on Facebook since 2005. Until recently my last post on my personal page was in 2019 and decided to only post on my business page which has the same name. In January 2022 I decided to delete both personal and business pages after repeatedly having difficulties connecting my website/blog to my FB business page. Apparently I simplely put it to sleep (disabled).
After reading an article where the writer also thought he had deleted his account only to discover it was just disabled I decided to see if I made the same mistake…. and I did and un-disabled or rather re-enabled my FB account.

I also had an Instagram business account under the same name which as of now has been static for 4 months and I will not be using it ever again. Not deleted, nor disabled, but disowned!

I also have a Twitter account under the same business name and mostly used it to view (and attempt to answer) medical case questions. Rarely successful I nevertheless enjoy it, reminding me of my time working at a hospital as a therapist. I no longer use Twitter as it’s a sack of shite. And not the good shite mind you but the really really egotistical mind-numbing shite.
The only social media I use with any regularity is YouTube and its mostly a one way street as I don’t up load many videos.

I guess in the now and future I will post to this blog and rather reluctantly my FB personal page. That is until FB disgusts or bores me or the mother ship comes back to pick me up.
Beam me up Scotty.

This week I am grateful for Stillness, after the Silence-ness of last week.

When you are still, with your breath, with your body, with your thoughts …. every-things are still-moving. Fast, slow, swirling, wiggling, inhaling, exhaling, even the biggest thing is small and sometimes the smallest thing seems big …. just be Still-ness.

About, quotes

Since the late 1990’s I have had some sort of web site(s) or blog(s) hosted on a variety of platforms. To help facilitate this I have collected a massive library of story/post ideas, images and quotes. Below are five (5) of my favorite quotes that express in part who I am.

“Real devotion is an unbroken receptivity to the truth. Real devotion is rooted in an awed and reverent gratitude, but one that is lucid, grounded, and intelligent.” Sogyal Rinpoche

“There must exist a paradigm, a practical model for social change that includes an understanding of ways to transform consciousness that are linked to efforts to transform structures.” Bell Hooks, Killing Rage: Ending Racism.

“If there is no friendship with the poor and no sharing of the life of the poor, then there is no authentic commitment to liberation, because love exists only among equals.” Gustavo Gutierrez, A Theology of Liberation.

“We only believe those thoughts which have been conceived not in the brain but in the whole body.” W.B. Yeats

I am, happily, an amateur photographer. I don’t know what I am doing, and I do it about 100 times a week. I go out and shoot nearly everyday. I still have no idea what most of the settings on my cameras do, despite books, YouTube videos, and carrying flash card like cheat sheets around. I am slowly discovering, after about 5 years, what I like to photograph and where to point the camera.

Light and dark seems to come up in my photos a lot. I don’t consciously go out to shoot these types of photos. I just go out, start shooting, go home, and load them onto the PC and take a look.

Since I shoot most everyday, of the 10,000 or so photos I’ve taken most were shoot within 100 yards of my door. I do, on occasion visit historic sites and botanical gardens in New England and the Mid Atlantic states.

Many things inspire me to take photos: sunlight and shadows, colors and less colors, clouds, sunlight and branches, trees, flowers, birds, favorite photographers, and, very rarely, a planned photograph.

I love the way sunlight filters through leaves and creates shadows. Click the images to enlarge.
