About, Social Media

I use social media, and have been used by social media. Meta Corp., which owns Facebook (FB), Instagram (IN), and WhatsApp, earns 97.5% of its revenue from the sale of advertising (Wikipedia).

I have had a personal profile page on Facebook since 2005. Until recently my last post on my personal page was in 2019 and decided to only post on my business page which has the same name. In January 2022 I decided to delete both personal and business pages after repeatedly having difficulties connecting my website/blog to my FB business page. Apparently I simplely put it to sleep (disabled).
After reading an article where the writer also thought he had deleted his account only to discover it was just disabled I decided to see if I made the same mistake…. and I did and un-disabled or rather re-enabled my FB account.

I also had an Instagram business account under the same name which as of now has been static for 4 months and I will not be using it ever again. Not deleted, nor disabled, but disowned!

I also have a Twitter account under the same business name and mostly used it to view (and attempt to answer) medical case questions. Rarely successful I nevertheless enjoy it, reminding me of my time working at a hospital as a therapist. I no longer use Twitter as it’s a sack of shite. And not the good shite mind you but the really really egotistical mind-numbing shite.
The only social media I use with any regularity is YouTube and its mostly a one way street as I don’t up load many videos.

I guess in the now and future I will post to this blog and rather reluctantly my FB personal page. That is until FB disgusts or bores me or the mother ship comes back to pick me up.
Beam me up Scotty.

Homelessness

There are four types of homelessness:
Chronic homelessness
The most common type, where someone is homeless for over a year

Episodic homelessness
Where someone experiences three episodes of homelessness within a year

Transitional homelessness
A popular misconception is that homelessness is a chronic condition

Hidden homelessness
A type of homelessness that presents its own set of challenges such as living in cars

The top causes of homelessness among families are:
Lack of affordable housing
Unemployment
Poverty
Low wages
Other factors that contribute to homelessness include:
Income and housing affordability
Escaping violence
Impact of racial disparities

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) defines homelessness as individuals or families who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This includes people who are living in a place not meant for human habitation, such as a public or private place, or in a shelter.

HUD also considers people homeless if they are losing their primary nighttime residence within 14 days and lack resources or support networks to remain in housing. This includes people who are staying with friends, but cannot stay there for longer than 14 days.

HUD has four categories of homelessness:
Literally homeless
Imminent risk of homelessness
Homeless under other federal statutes
Fleeing/attempting to flee domestic violence

About

Wellness is not the mere absence of disease. It is a proactive, preventive approach designed to achieve optimum levels of health, social and emotional functioning. Wellness can also be defined as an active process through which you become aware of and make choices toward a more successful existence.

The definition of Wellness is: NOUN
1. mental and physical soundness: physical well-being, especially when maintained or achieved through good diet and regular exercise.

A wellness-oriented lifestyle encourages you to adopt habits and behaviors that promote better health and an improved quality of life. It also involves the recognition that you have physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs, with each dimension being necessary for optimal levels of functioning.

Wellness is a positive approach to living – an approach that emphasizes the whole person. It is the integration of the body, mind, and spirit; and the appreciation that everything you do, think, feel, and believe has an impact on your state of health.

Since lifestyle has been found to be the single most important factor determining your pattern of general health, it is important that you be educated to “take charge” of your daily life and to set healthy lifestyle goals. The choices you make have a dominant influence on your health ad wellness. The secret is not in medical care, but consistent self- care. While traditional medicine concentrates on alleviating or curing disease, the wellness approach encourages you to take personal responsibility for your well-being.

Remember, Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life.

“…a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” – The World Health Organization

Homelessness

Homelessness is the state of lacking stable, safe, and functional housing. It can include living on the streets, sleeping in doorways, or staying with friends or relatives.
Homelessness can be caused by social factors like poverty, unemployment, and a lack of affordable housing. People can also become homeless after leaving prison, care, or the army with no home to go to.
In the United States, there are four categories of homelessness:
Transitional homelessness
Episodic homelessness
Chronic homelessness
Hidden homelessness

Does Animal-Assisted Therapy Help Adolescents With Psychiatric Problems?

Can animal-assisted therapy help adolescents who are in hospital because of an acute psychiatric crisis? A randomized controlled trial investigates.

The study, conducted by a team of researchers led by M.C. Stefanini of the University of Florence, randomly allocated patients to either an animal-assisted therapy intervention or no intervention. Both groups continued to receive psychiatric treatment as usual, and those treating them did not know which group they were in. The results are very promising.

The intervention group had better school attendance, higher levels of global functioning, and spent less time in the hospital compared to the control group. “One possible explanation for this success is the role of the animal as a catalyst in the therapeutic process,” the researchers write. “Animals may represent a valid help in therapeutic contexts thanks to their ability to catalyze social interactions and to create a more relaxed environment.”   MORE HERE
